BIOGRAPHY

 

Maria Assunta Karini starts as a sculptor. After graduating from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts  in  Paris,  in  the  Sculpture  section;  she  studies  marble  sculpture  technologies  at  the  School  of  Marble  in Carrara and attends courses concerning sculptural technologies on granite in Montreal, Canada.

Karini participates in numerous monumental sculpture exhibitions and competitions (Israel, Brazil, Mexico, France,  Czech   Republic,   Korea).  Some   of   her   most   prominent  works   can   be   found   in  several international public and private collections.

Subsequently, she starts realizing photography and  video installation projects,  thanks also to an individual scientific research, and to international collaborations with multidisciplinary artistic groups   (Centro Provincial de Artes Plastica  y  Diseño,  Cuba;  MADC  Museo  de  Arte  y  Diseño  Contemporáneo  etc). Karini  attends specialized courses  at  Aiace  (Turin)  on  experimental  cinema  and  courses  at  the  Civic  film  school  Milano Foundation.

At the same time Karini participates, as film director and screenwriter, in national and international festivals (Cannes, Seattle, Seoul, Tehran, Clermont Ferrand, Barcelona, Athens, Warsaw, Amsterdam etc.).  Several of her short and medium length films won prizes and awards.

Karini   took   part   in  many   expositions  in   museums,   foundations   and   galleries,  among  others  at Contemporary Art Museum BAC in Barcelona (Spain)  and MART  Contemporary Art  Museum of Trento and Rovereto (Italy),  MADC San José (Costa Rica), etc.

Karini  collaborated with Francesco Paladino   on  different  videos,  i.e.  Breakblues,  with  American  artists  Frank  Lisciandro,  Joe  R. Lansdale,  Sonny  Landreth  ,  Anthony  Neil  Smith,  Tim  Willocks,  Lance  Leadbetter;  Ghosts  of  Industrial Sunday,  with the musical  collaboration of  Simon Fisher Turner;  Moth  Masque, music by Timothy Renner;  Timelake, a documentary about the musician Gregg Lake.
